Log: 2009.02.14

Activity: Running
Time: 2:00:02
Distance: 11.03 miles
Pace: Easy due to knee and trail conditions

Notes:

I finally got outside for a run. I chose a hilly park so that I can get a few confidence builders in for Flying Pig. My knee hurt a lot for the first 20 minutes but gradually loosened up. I felt especially good when I was able to run on the off road trail. However, towards the end of the run conditions forced me back on the paved trail and my knee starting hurting again. The rest of the day was pretty rough. The good news is that I am seeing a sports doc who is a runner in a week and a half and hopefully he can fix me up.

Log: 2009.02.11

Activity: Running
Distance: 7.5miles

Workout:
2miles easy; 3x10min @ 6:44 pace (1% incline) w/ 2 min walk rest; remainder easy

Notes:

While cardiovascularly (is that a word?) I felt fine, my left knee was in a lot of pain so I only completed 3 of the planned 4 reps and cut my cooldown short. I was pretty bummed about that but it's probably what's best in the end.

Notes:

The children decided not to nap at the same time so I didn't get much of a run in.

Log: 2009.02.09

Activity: Running
Distance: 5 miles

Pace: 8:20 @ 1% incline

Notes:

This was my first day at my new easy pace (VDOT=51) as determined by Saturday's time trial. It felt faster (duh) but I am sure it will feel comfortable soon (at least I hope!)

2009.02.07 - 5K TIME TRIAL

Activity: Running
Distance: 6 miles

Workout:

2miles easy; 3.1 miles in 19:36; remainder easy

Notes:
YIPPEEEE!!!! Even moments before I started the time trial I thought there was no way I could come close to my goal of 19:36. But I did it - exactly! It actually didn't feel too bad. Of course it wasn't easy but I think I could have gone faster. 19:36 corresponds to a VDOT of 51 according to Daniel's Running Formula which corresponds to roughly a 3:08 marathon. Since my goal is 3:15 (and my super secret goal is sub 3:10) this should give me a little wiggle room to account for the Pig's hills and any other unforeseen issues race day. As long as my knee holds up, I am feeling stoked for May!
