Notes:

We had a family outing to the park. It was a beautiful day and I was dying to run. However, things aren't completely healed yet so I did the sensible thing and walked. I started running again at 3 weeks with #1 and that's still my tentative goal...

Notes:

Our baby arrived as expected and without issue. He's perfect of course but I'll write more about that later - this is a training log after all!

I've been walking since he was born, but today was my first official outing that I am going to count as exercise. I took the double jogger out for a spin with both kids and it rocked. However, it is pretty massive - I can't imagine running with it yet!

Third and final call

I feel like I did in high school and college before a big meet and later on in life before a marathon. The preparation is done, the plan is set, nothing can be changed now. All I need to do is go out there and execute. I just need to keep my mind focused on the finish line and not let little things distract me on the way there.

With a curious mix of anxiety, excitement and serenity, I toe the line and wait for the gun to go off.

1min running, 1 min walking for 30

Mission complete. I made it to the end upright and with one foot still in front of the other.

A week of lasts. My last spinning class before baby. Tomorrow is my last day of work before leave. And Thursday will be my last run for awhile. Wow. Reality is slamming me hard in the face.

Activity: Cycling
Time: 30:00

Notes:

I really wanted to get a run in today but the weather is not cooperating. I am hesitant to run outside normally when the thermometer hits 90 degrees, but being days away from delivery I don't even entertain the thought. It's hard enough lugging around a full term baby without the added burden of the heat. Additionally, they always warn about over heating during pregnant exercise and I think 90+ degrees would definitely qualify.

Not to mention I would have to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated.

Drinking a lot of water + pregnancy + running = one seriously uncomfortable bladder

"Is that you mommy?"

I was trying to escape the heat yesterday and crashed on the couch to watch some Tivo'd track and field. DS crawled up to next to me and asked to cuddle.

The women's 1500m came on and DS pointed to the tv and asked, "Is that you mommy?" followed by "Run mommy run!". It was so too cute beyond words and swelled my heart that my tiny toddler already associated me as a running mommy.

Of course, both DH and I both found great humor in the fact that with my short stature, massive belly and waddling pace I do not look remotely like any of those tall and lean elite athletes with ripped abs and impressive speed. But hey, I'll take all the compliments I can get even if it is from a 2yo!!!

Why so hot?

We seemed to have skipped the 70s and 80s and went straight to the 90s. It's miserable and even much more so in my current condition. I wanted to run today but was tired this morning so I planned to run this evening. Of course it is still ridicously hot outside so it's probably not the best idea to attempt running at 38+ weeks pregnant. We are in the midst of a basement renovation so I can't hit the treadmill either. I guess I could bike but it's less tiring to just surf the net all night long...

Activity: Swimming
Time: 10:00

Notes:

Yes, that's right I actually pulled a double in my final weeks of pregnancy. Of course, the second half (swimming) was a bit on the weak side but the hour of spinning in the morning was respectable!

When DH got home from work, he suggested that we hit the Y for a family swim. I needed to get out of the house and DS had energy to burn so I gladly agreed. DH took the first shift of swimming in the kiddie section of the pool with DS so I could swim some laps. We then switched and I took DS. Poor DH - about the exact moment he got into the pool and got his goggles on the lifeguards saw lightening and closed the pool. (It still baffles me that they close an indoor pool for lightening but whatever) So he didn't get his workout in and I got two. I felt bad!

I went to spinning class today for the first time in a few weeks. I felt great afterwards. I've been letting my diet go lately and have been feeling rotten, physically and mentally, as a result. There's nothing like a good workout to clear out the toxins (hello Mickey D's!).

Notes:
I set out to run 3min/walk 1 min and quickly realized that was not in the cards. I felt like crap. So I backed it down to 1 on/1 off. I was beating myself up about not being able to do the prescribed "workout". Then I had a bit of reality check. I am carrying 30 extra pounds, primarily in my abs. I am carrying one baby and pushing another. I am going to give birth in less than 2 weeks. Maybe it's ok to cut it back once in awhile...
